Missing Local Folders in Thunderbird
Some time ago, some of the local folders I use to back-up old mail suddenly disappeared. I didn’t have time to check what was the problem but today I spent a couple of hours googling for a solution. The weird thing that the folders were there, but Thunderbird refused to show them.
To keep this post short: I tried a lot of methods like moving the location of the files belonging to the local folders and deleting some temporary files created by Thunderbird (like *.msf and panacea.dat). Nothing worked.
Finally, I tried creating the folders using Thunderbird itself (through the interface, nothing sophisticated)… and IT WORKED!. All the files reappeared upon the creation of the topmost folder!. Here you have another option if this happens to you.
I’m using Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 under Windows XP Home Edition SP2.
(This page has a lot of irformation about the files created and managed by Thunderbird)

Very helpful post! Recreating the sub folder resolved the problem for me too. Many thanks!
Thank you, just came across your site and tried this. It works!
Thanks this works great!
Unbelievable! This worked instantly. Much appreciated.
This saved my bacon! I had many dozens of Local Folders. I had to reinstall Windows, so I retrieved my email from my backup, but after reinstating my T-bird profile, most (not all) of the Local Folders were missing! But just creating the folder names was enough for the missing emails to be found and displayed. Thank you so much!
Update on my previous comment. Although this worked for the first few folders I tried, there are many folders for which it is not working now.
